Fire Erupts on Commercial Vessel Northeast of Doha After Mystery Strike
A cargo ship caught fire after being hit by an unknown projectile 23 miles northeast of Doha; the blaze was extinguished with no injuries reported.
A cargo vessel was struck by a projectile of unknown origin while sailing 23 nautical miles northeast of Doha, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The impact ignited a small fire aboard the ship, which was subsequently extinguished.
The ship's captain reported no casualties and no environmental damage from the incident, the UKMTO added. Authorities are now investigating the source of the projectile, and vessels in the area have been advised to proceed with caution.
The attack comes as Gulf region tensions remain elevated between the United States and Iran, coinciding with a ceasefire in the US-Israeli war against the Islamic Republic.
