Germany demands Iran abandon nuclear weapons and open the Strait of Hormuz "immediately"

German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefol announced that he demanded Iran, today Sunday, to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and abandon its nuclear program, during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi.

Vadefol wrote on the X platform: "I affirmed that Germany supports a negotiated solution, and as a close ally of the United States, we share the same goal: Iran must completely and verifiably abandon its nuclear weapons, and open the Strait of Hormuz immediately, similar to what U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio demanded."

German-American relations have witnessed noticeable tension recently, following an attack and dispute between U.S. President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, amidst widening disagreement between Trump and Europe regarding the war with Iran.

Yesterday Saturday, the U.S. Department of War "Pentagon" announced that the United States decided to withdraw 5000 troops from Germany, in what appears to be a U.S. "rebuke" to the close ally in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization "NATO".

The "Pentagon" explained that the decision comes as part of a broader review of the positioning of military forces outside the country, in line with U.S. national security priorities and current strategic challenges.
