According to four sources cited by NBC News, Iran and the Sultanate of Oman have presented a proposal to the United States outlining a mechanism for jointly managing the Strait of Hormuz, including the idea of collecting administrative fees.

Two informed sources and a regional official confirmed that the plan was recently handed over to the US authorities.

However, a Middle East official clarified that Oman has not yet submitted an official proposal, despite ongoing consultations with the United States regarding possible management arrangements for the strait.

An informed source stated that American negotiators have some reservations about the proposal but intend to discuss it with the Omani side, believing that outstanding issues can be resolved.

The same source added that the US team values its partnership with Oman and is confident that technical disagreements can be settled.

It was also noted that Muscat is committed to ensuring freedom of navigation through the strait without imposing mandatory transit fees, emphasizing that the Omani proposal does not include compulsory charges on vessels.

Separately, NBC News quoted a White House spokesperson who said that US President Donald Trump affirmed that Iran cannot impose fees on passage through the Strait of Hormuz, as it is an international waterway.
