Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, told Germany’s Die Welt that the bloc will impose its widest-ranging sanctions on Russia to date this autumn, targeting an additional third of Russian entities.

Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, confirmed in an interview with the German daily newspaper Die Welt that the EU plans to significantly expand its sanctions against Russia in the coming months.
“EU sanctions have already exacted a heavy price from Russia, depriving its war machine of more than one trillion euros — $1.16 trillion — and this autumn I will present the broadest sanctions lists since the war began,” Kallas stated.
Once adopted, the forthcoming package will immediately increase the total number of Russian entities subject to EU sanctions by one-third, according to Kallas.
She emphasized that pressure must continue to intensify until Moscow ends its war.
Kallas did not provide additional information regarding the timing or specific content of the new sanctions package.
The EU had approved its most recent sanctions package against Russia in July, citing Russia’s war in Ukraine, and imposed restrictions on the country’s banking sector and cryptocurrency networks.
From the Balkans to Ukraine, the European Union is redrawing its membership map.
