Lavrov and Araghchi Discuss Gulf Tensions and Iranian Conflict Resolution

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi concerning the escalation in the Gulf region and the resolution of the Iranian conflict.

A statement published on the Russian Foreign Ministry's official website indicated that the talks took place on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan.

The statement added that the heads of foreign policy departments examined the current escalation in the Gulf and its threat to the prospects for a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Lavrov emphasized the importance of swiftly reaching sustainable agreements to end hostilities, aiming to restore stability, security, and unimpeded navigation in the region.

Additionally, the two officials discussed several current bilateral issues during their meeting.
