New York Mayor Zahran Mamdani has issued urgent warnings to city residents via the platform "X," forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms that could result in sudden flooding.

These alerts come amid harsh weather conditions, following an unprecedented heatwave that pushed temperatures to 38 degrees Celsius. This heatwave caused power outages affecting over 840,000 households and led to the cancellation or postponement of Independence Day events in several East Coast cities.

The mayor's direct instructions to residents for emergency preparedness include minimizing travel and remaining indoors during storms. Immediate evacuation of basement apartments is advised if water levels begin to rise.

Safe overnight accommodations are being provided across all neighborhoods, accessible by contacting the emergency number. Residents are also urged to report non-urgent hazards such as fallen trees and blocked drains, while reserving calls to 911 for immediate danger or water entrapment situations.
