Oil Tanker Hit Near Strait of Hormuz, Fire Erupts Onboard
An oil tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile near the Strait of Hormuz, causing a fire but no reported injuries or environmental damage.

An oil tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile while sailing southward toward the Gulf of Oman near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, resulting in a fire onboard, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
The UKMTO, which monitors navigation in the area, reported that the tanker was located eight nautical miles east of the Lima area in the Sultanate of Oman when the projectile hit its port side.
No injuries were reported among the crew members, and there were no observed environmental impacts from the incident.
Tehran insists that ships must obtain permission from Iran to pass through the strait, which typically handles one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supplies, and that transit should occur along designated routes. However, an increasing number of vessels are using a route closer to the Omani coast, which challenges Iran's influence over the waterway.
