Protests Erupt in Aden Over Electricity and Water Shortages
Residents of Aden demonstrate against worsening electricity and water service outages amid rising summer heat.
The temporary Yemeni capital, Aden, is experiencing an escalating crisis of electricity outages as summer begins, severely impacting water supply to residents' homes.
Dozens of local inhabitants gathered to express their frustration and protest the deteriorating services under the slogan "Aden is suffocating from the intense heat and electricity shortage."
On Thursday, the Al-Arood Square in Aden hosted demonstrations where participants demanded the provision of essential services, including electricity and water.
That same day, dozens of Yemeni women in Aden held a protest calling for improvements in basic services, with electricity being a primary concern.
In a statement, the women described the current national situation as "catastrophic," highlighting the harsh conditions caused by the collapse of public services.
Electricity outages last between 18 and 20 hours daily, with continuous blackouts lasting 8 to 10 hours, intensifying the hardships faced by citizens.
The power cuts have directly affected water networks, as the interruption prevents water pumps from operating, resulting in the suspension of water delivery to homes for several consecutive days.
