Sensitive UK Defense Documents Found Near Catterick Military Base
Secret Ministry of Defence papers were discovered in a municipal landfill close to Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire.

The weekly newspaper The Sun on Sunday revealed that secret documents belonging to the British Ministry of Defence were found in a municipal landfill located four kilometers from Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire.
According to the newspaper, a passerby accidentally came across the documents, which included sensitive information such as personal data of military personnel, details about weapons storage, guard changes, safety rule violations, and emergency response protocols.
The Royal Military Police are currently investigating the incident. A spokesperson for the British Army stated that initial information indicates the missing documents did not contain "classified information on operational defense."
This statement raises questions about the nature and security classification of the documents, and whether they pertain strictly to classified information or are administrative materials, especially given the inclusion of data related to safety violations and emergency protocols.
Catterick Garrison, located near the Yorkshire Dales, is one of the largest military bases worldwide, hosting approximately 13,000 troops. It includes multiple units such as the 4th Infantry Brigade, the Infantry Training Centre, and detachments of the Royal Military Police. This security breach occurs amid increasing organizational and security challenges faced by the British Armed Forces.
