Trump-backed candidate gains unexpected support in Michigan ahead of congressional elections
Republican Mike Rogers received an unexpected endorsement from Democratic Representative Haley Stevens just two days before the midterm elections, sparking internal party divisions.

Republicans gained unexpected support in the Michigan Senate race after Democratic Representative Haley Stevens endorsed Republican candidate Mike Rogers two days before the midterm elections.
Stevens had lost the Democratic nomination to Abdul El-Sayed, who leads Rogers by about four points according to "RealClearPolling" surveys. Stevens stated that there was "no place for me in Abdul's campaign," blaming him for a foreign committee report accusing Israel of raising food prices in the United States.
Trump welcomed the endorsement and invited Stevens to join the Republican Party, while Rogers described the move as "courageous." However, the decision sparked division within the Democratic Party, with reports of several of Stevens' congressional staff resigning.
Democrats are fighting a close battle for control of the Senate, while they are favored to win a majority in the House of Representatives, where voting will take place Tuesday on 35 Senate seats and 435 House seats.
In Alaska, the Trump administration's attempt to block certification of the race results stalled after a federal judge rejected the Department of Justice lawsuit amid a dispute over a candidate with a name similar to Republican Senator Dan Sullivan appearing on the ballot.
