US President Donald Trump called on the Republican Party today, Wednesday, to choose its nominee for the 2028 presidential election.

Trump said it is time for the Republican Party to start identifying its candidate for the 2028 presidential race, noting that the party includes "an amazing group of candidates," although he refused to name specific individuals at this stage.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said the selection of the nominee will ultimately come through a competitive process, but he did not rule out that his support or endorsement could be a decisive factor, saying: "They say the winner will be whoever Trump supports or chooses, and I don't know if that's true or not."

Trump announced his acceptance of the results of all midterm election races, confirming that he does not consider them a personal setback. He congratulated the Democrats on their strong performance and stated that he is ready to work with them for the benefit of the country.

Trump added that he believes the Democrats will want to cooperate with him; otherwise, he will use his veto power against everything, noting that their control of Congress does not give them a position that allows them to impose their will.

Trump said he believes the Iran file was one of the factors in the Republicans' loss, but he emphasized that Americans understand what was achieved in dealing with Tehran.

This comes amid reports of a confirmed victory for the Democrats in the House of Representatives and a likely win in the Senate as well, following the release of the first results from yesterday's Tuesday midterm elections.
