US President Donald Trump issued his first comment on his Republican party's loss in the congressional midterm elections.

Trump said via his social media platform "Truth Social," "If my name had been on the ballot, we would have won in a landslide."

Trump added to The New York Times, "I accept the results of the midterm elections and am prepared to work with the Democrats."

He added: "It is likely that we will reach an appropriate formula for working with the Democrats."

Preliminary results showed the Democratic Party winning the majority of seats in the US House of Representatives, which has 435 seats.

According to the American CNN network, this victory will undermine the Republicans' grip on Washington and lead to two years of confrontation with President Donald Trump.

Based on preliminary results, Democrats secured 244 seats and Republicans 191 seats in the House of Representatives, while in the Senate, Democrats obtained 46 seats and Republicans won 38 seats as of 3 PM GMT.

Candidates are competing for the 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 35 out of 100 seats in the Senate, as well as governorships in 36 states.

However, despite this, clear indicators regarding the new balance of power in Washington may take time to emerge.

The Republicans' loss of dominance in the House of Representatives will grant Democrats the ability to disrupt Trump's legislative agenda and launch wide-ranging investigations into his administration.

Meanwhile, their defeat in the Senate will undermine his ability to appoint Supreme Court justices and senior officials.

About 59 million people cast their votes before election day.

The election campaign attracted spending exceeding $11 billion on political ads, while billionaire Elon Musk, a close ally of Trump, injected hundreds of millions of dollars to support Republican political efforts.
