Serbian police said today, Wednesday, that they killed a person outside the Israeli embassy in Belgrade after he attempted to attack it.

According to what was reported by "Agence France-Presse" from Serbian police, the attacker was a minor, armed with two knives, and shouting "Allahu Akbar".

The guard sustained a minor facial injury before shooting the attacker "in self-defense", according to a statement by Serbian police.

The Israeli embassy had previously been subjected to an earlier attack in June 2024.

At that time, the Serbian Ministry of Interior announced that an attacker carrying a bow and arrows injured a Serbian police officer guarding the Israeli embassy in Belgrade. The officer responded by shooting the attacker, killing him.

Since the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, Israeli embassies and consulates have faced a series of threats and attacks around the world, reaching dozens of cases over the following two years, according to security sources.

Incidents included the stabbing of an embassy employee in Beijing in October 2023, the discovery of an explosive device outside the Stockholm embassy, the throwing of Molotov cocktails in The Hague, Bucharest, and Mexico City, the detonation of hand grenades near the Copenhagen embassy and shootings in Stockholm, in addition to an armed attempt with a knife in London and a shooting near the consulate in Munich.

In May of last year, two employees at the Israeli embassy in Washington were shot dead by an attacker. Tel Aviv has repeatedly accused Tehran and its allies of organizing or inciting such attacks through local proxies, in the context of global escalation linked to the war in Gaza.
