Two significant earthquakes rattled regions near the United States within a short span of hours, though no casualties or property damage have been reported so far.

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck near the city of Brawley in Imperial County, California, at 8:13 PM local time on Saturday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake occurred at a very shallow depth of 6 miles, which amplified its perceptibility, as shallow earthquakes tend to be more impactful due to their proximity to the surface.

Hours later, a second, stronger earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 struck near the coast of central Chile at 02:34 GMT on Sunday morning, as reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences. The agency noted that the earthquake's epicenter was located at a depth of 10 kilometers, at the convergence of latitude 37.70 degrees south and longitude 73.19 degrees west.

Authorities have indicated that precise estimates of the quakes' magnitudes, epicenter locations, and depths may be revised in the coming hours or minutes, following further analysis of seismic data by scientists or reports from other monitoring agencies.
