UAE Calls for Immediate Ceasefire and Expanded Arms Embargo in Sudan
The United Arab Emirates urged an immediate, unconditional ceasefire in Sudan and called for broadening the UN arms embargo to cover the entire country.

The United Arab Emirates has stated that the ongoing escalation in the city of Al-Obeid and its surrounding areas demonstrates that there is no military solution to the conflict in Sudan.
In a statement issued during an urgent session of the United Nations Human Rights Council addressing the situation in Al-Obeid, the UAE renewed its call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and the establishment of an urgent humanitarian truce, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
The statement strongly condemned all violations of international law committed by the conflict parties across Sudan, including attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.
It also called for the expansion of the United Nations arms embargo to cover the entire territory of Sudan, describing this step as essential to halting hostilities and ensuring the protection of civilians. The UAE emphasized the importance of guaranteeing safe and unhindered access for humanitarian aid to all affected areas.
As a member of the Sudan Quartet Group, the UAE welcomed the outcomes of the Berlin Conference, which provided an opportunity for Sudanese civil components, alongside the ongoing efforts of the Quintet Group to advance the civilian political process.
Concluding its statement, the UAE affirmed that the primary objective of the international community must be to support a comprehensive political path led by civilians, independent from the conflict parties and extremist groups, and reflective of the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
