UAE Condemns Drone Attack on Barakah Nuclear Plant

The United Arab Emirates issued a strong condemnation on Sunday following what it described as a "treacherous terrorist attack" targeting a power generator located outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra region. The assault was executed by an unmanned aerial vehicle that entered Emirati airspace from the western border. Authorities confirmed no injuries were reported and that radiation safety levels remained unaffected.

In a statement carried by the state-run Emirates News Agency (WAM), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared that such attacks constitute a "dangerous escalation," an unacceptable transgression, and a direct threat to national security. The ministry stressed that targeting peaceful nuclear energy facilities represents a clear violation of international law, the United Nations Charter, and the provisions of international humanitarian law, given the severe risks such actions pose to civilians, the environment, and both regional and global security. It further noted that relevant international standards and agreements—including the principles and resolutions of the International Atomic Energy Agency—underscore the imperative to protect peaceful nuclear installations and shield them from any hostile acts or military threats.

Unwavering Stance on Sovereignty

The ministry affirmed that the UAE "will not be lenient in protecting its security and sovereignty under any circumstances." It emphasized that the nation retains all its sovereign, legal, diplomatic, and military rights to confront any threat, claim, or hostile act, ensuring the protection of its sovereignty, national security, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens, residents, and visitors, in accordance with international law.

Furthermore, the ministry underscored that targeting vital and civilian sites is "condemned and rejected by all legal and humanitarian standards." It called for an immediate halt to such treacherous assaults, demanding full compliance with the cessation of all hostile activities.
