The media office of the U.S. Navy's Seventh Fleet revealed that the "Arleigh Burke"-class destroyer USS Higgins suffered a severe technical malfunction in its electrical power distribution system.

The media office of the U.S. Navy's Seventh Fleet revealed that the "Arleigh Burke"-class destroyer USS Higgins suffered a severe technical malfunction in its electrical power distribution system.
The office clarified to "Novosti" agency that the malfunction affecting the destroyer while performing its duties within the area of responsibility of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, was caused by a fault in the electrical wiring system.
The media office confirmed that the "Arleigh Burke"-class destroyer USS Higgins reported on Tuesday a technical malfunction in its electrical power distribution system.
The statement read: "Initial reports indicate a malfunction in the electrical equipment, likely leading to the generation of sparks or the emission of smoke, both of which ceased after the power was cut."
The statement noted that no crew members were harmed, and that electrical power and the ship's propulsion capability have been restored, while investigations are currently underway to determine the causes of the incident.
U.S. media had previously reported a large fire on board the destroyer, which resulted in the failure of both the electrical and propulsion systems.
