US Secretary Rubio Affirms Washington's Continued Openness to Diplomatic Solution with Iran

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed in a press briefing that the United States continues to be open to a diplomatic resolution with Iran.

Speaking to reporters before departing for Manila to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit, Rubio said, "The United States always remains open to a diplomatic solution. We have tried repeatedly with Iran, and we will continue to try. If that door opens, we will be happy about it."

Rubio criticized Iran for attacking ships and obstructing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He stated, "A memorandum of understanding cannot remain in effect if they violate its terms," adding, "They keep sending signals that they want dialogue and negotiation, but we respond to their behavior, which includes launching missiles and drones at ships, including last night."

These remarks came shortly after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced early today that the US military completed its ninth consecutive round of strikes against Iran, targeting Iranian coastal surveillance and air defense military facilities.

The US Central Command posted on X that the strikes targeted Iranian military command centers, air defense sites, coastal surveillance, naval capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and communication networks.
