Andrea Pirlo praises Atalanta midfielder Ederson's suitability for the Premier League as Manchester United prepare to finalize his £39 million transfer.

Manchester United are progressing toward finalizing the acquisition of Atalanta midfielder Ederson following a £39 million agreement reached last month, with Serie A icon Andrea Pirlo providing his evaluation of the player.
Ederson, aged 26, was scheduled to undergo a medical examination to complete his transfer to Old Trafford but was instead called up late to Brazil’s World Cup squad by coach Carlo Ancelotti after Wesley sustained an injury.
Although Wesley primarily plays as a right-back, Ancelotti apparently considered Ederson's versatility and skill set sufficient to cover the position.
Brazil experienced a disappointing exit in the tournament held in North America, losing 2-1 to Norway in the round of sixteen. Ederson entered the match as a substitute when the score was 0-0, but Erling Haaland’s two goals secured Norway’s victory.
Prior to the match, rumors circulated suggesting Manchester United might withdraw from the deal with Atalanta. However, club officials quickly refuted these claims, confirming the transfer would proceed after Ederson completed his international duties.
Following Brazil's elimination—which represents the nation’s poorest World Cup performance to date—the São Paulo-born player is expected to undergo his medical examination and officially sign with Manchester United, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
Despite Ederson’s recognition as one of Serie A’s premier box-to-box midfielders, his profile remains relatively low in England, even after notable performances against Liverpool during Atalanta’s 2024 Europa League campaign.
Andrea Pirlo, a distinguished former midfielder with a trophy collection spanning AC Milan and Juventus, offers a professional opinion on Ederson’s potential impact in the Premier League.
“I think he is a player good for the Premier League,” Pirlo told the Daily Mail. “He is dynamic runner and intense. I think he is a player that can adapt really well there.”
Players transitioning from Italy to England often face challenges adapting to the Premier League’s physical demands, as exemplified by Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee’s struggles.
Pirlo’s confidence in Ederson’s ability to avoid similar difficulties is a positive indicator for the midfielder’s future at Old Trafford.
