Arsenal plans to make a formal bid for Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes, who has expressed his desire to join the Premier League champions this summer.

Arsenal is preparing to submit an official offer to Newcastle for Bruno Guimaraes after the midfielder indicated his wish to transfer this summer.
The Newcastle captain reportedly communicated his intention to leave the club amid interest from the reigning Premier League champions.
Earlier in June, Arsenal engaged in preliminary discussions with Guimaraes’ representatives to assess his availability following Newcastle’s failure to qualify for European competition.
These initial talks were positive, encouraging Arsenal to express formal interest by proposing a bid in the region of £55 million to the player’s camp.
Now, approximately two weeks later, Arsenal has received further signals of encouragement from Guimaraes himself and is expected to initiate direct negotiations with Newcastle through an official club-to-club offer.
Despite this, Newcastle maintains that Guimaraes, regarded as their top performer and current captain, is not for sale regardless of the bid amount.
Newcastle has already seen the departures of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer for a combined fee nearing £162 million, potentially rising to £170 million.
This follows the previous summer’s sale of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for £120 million.
Guimaraes, aged 28, is under contract with Newcastle for two more years, with the club holding an option to extend his deal by an additional year.
Arsenal’s summer transfer activity has been relatively subdued, with Piero Hincapie’s loan move converted into a permanent transfer worth £35 million, and former Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier expected to join on a free transfer.
On the international stage, Guimaraes was involved in Brazil’s recent World Cup exit after a penalty save in the first half against Norway, marking Brazil’s first failure to reach the quarter-finals since 1990.
