The Danish Football Union announced on Friday it will not support Gianni Infantino in the upcoming FIFA presidential election scheduled for 18 March 2027 in Rabat, Morocco, citing a “fundamental crisis of confidence” in his leadership.

The Danish Football Union (DBU) declared on Friday that it will not back Gianni Infantino in the forthcoming FIFA presidential election, scheduled for 18 March 2027 at the 77th FIFA Congress in Rabat, Morocco. The DBU stated that Infantino’s leadership has triggered a “fundamental crisis of confidence” in FIFA’s governance.
Infantino has drawn fresh criticism over his abandoned proposal to partially privatize the FIFA World Cup. The DBU emphasized that this initiative generated a “fundamental crisis of confidence” toward FIFA’s leadership and noted that subsequent apologies and the formal withdrawal of the proposal did not alter its position.
The DBU confirmed it did not support Infantino in the last presidential election held in 2022 and reiterated it will not endorse him in the 2027 vote. The union underscored its stance is unequivocal: it seeks a new president at the helm of FIFA.
The DBU said it will work alongside UEFA and its international counterparts to ensure member associations have a genuine, credible alternative candidate in the 2027 presidential election — one capable of unifying FIFA across confederations and rebuilding shattered trust.
The deadline for submitting candidacies for the FIFA presidency falls on 18 November. According to French newspaper L’Équipe, no rival candidate has yet emerged to challenge Infantino.
The DBU also announced its alignment with UEFA’s position regarding potential boycotts of future FIFA-organized competitions. It affirmed that such action remains on the table if FIFA fails to provide “necessary guarantees” against opening its tournaments to private-sector investors.
