Manchester United reportedly regret inaction on left-back, targeting Lewis Hall and Adrien Truffert while Shaw and Martinez may depart.

Internal sources indicate that Manchester United’s leadership now views the lack of activity in the left-back sector during the recent summer window as a strategic oversight. While three midfielders were secured, other key positions remained unaddressed, prompting a reassessment of squad needs.
According to iNews, the club is actively monitoring Lewis Hall and Adrien Truffert as primary candidates for the role. This renewed focus coincides with expectations that Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez will leave Old Trafford at the conclusion of the current season, signaling a potential major restructuring of the defensive line.
Prior reports confirmed that United intended to pursue Hall despite his recent contract extension with Newcastle United. The England international has performed notably for the Magpies, making him a logical target for clubs seeking top-tier talent.
Newcastle’s reluctance to part with Hall was understandable given their extensive summer sales, which included Bruno Guimaraes moving to Arsenal, Sandro Tonali joining Tottenham, and Anthony Gordon transferring to Barcelona. Losing another key player would have further depleted the squad, suggesting United likely anticipated a longer wait for a deal.
Adrien Truffert presents an alternative option, having impressed for Bournemouth in the Premier League. The Cherries have a history of capitalizing on player value, recently selling Antoine Semenyo, Dean Huijsen, and Milos Kerkez for profit.
United faces competition for Truffert’s signature, as other elite clubs are also tracking Bournemouth assets such as Alex Scott, Rayan, and Eli Junior Kroupi. To secure the French defender, the Red Devils must act quickly before the pool of available high-profile players from the club diminishes further.
