Portugal coach Roberto Martínez stated that Cristiano Ronaldo is capable of continuing to play and could participate in the 2030 World Cup.

Roberto Martínez, the head coach of Portugal's national football team, affirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo remains capable of competing and could take part in the 2030 FIFA World Cup finals.
Martínez made these remarks during an interview with the Spanish radio station Cadena SER on Friday morning, addressing speculation that the 41-year-old Ronaldo might retire from international football after the upcoming 2026 World Cup in North America.
He stated, "No one should doubt Ronaldo's ability to be present at the 2030 World Cup. He has earned that right thoroughly."
Martínez added, "We hope to be able to pass on Cristiano Ronaldo's example to all young football players in Portugal because he is a role model for them."
The Portugal coach further explained, "Our coaching staff has concluded that Cristiano Ronaldo does not play for a specific team or individual title. Cristiano does not dwell on what he has achieved; rather, he is driven by a great passion. Regardless of his victories, he draws the same passion for development the following day."
He emphasized, "Cristiano Ronaldo has the mentality and discipline to play in the 2030 World Cup at the age of 45. He is an exceptional case, and the secret to his longevity is not what he has accomplished but his constant 'hunger' for daily improvement."
Martínez continued, "I have worked with many players who have won the Champions League or the Ballon d'Or and lost their enthusiasm the next day. What we see with Ronaldo is an example of a different mindset."
He concluded, "I believe that having this goal ensures continuity. Of course, there is a hereditary aspect and the effort he exerts. He uses everything that benefits his body and mentality."
Ronaldo, alongside his longtime rival Lionel Messi, is set to achieve a historic milestone next month at the 2026 World Cup by becoming one of the first players to participate in six different editions of the tournament. Currently, the Portuguese star holds the unique record of being the only player in history to score in five consecutive World Cups, with his latest goal against Ghana in the Qatar 2022 edition.
