Ruben Amorim disclosed a personal vow to pursue a smaller challenge after his dismissal from Manchester United, now taking charge at AC Milan.

Following his dismissal from Manchester United, Ruben Amorim revealed he made a personal commitment to seek a less demanding role, despite now taking on a significant challenge at AC Milan.
Amorim’s tenure at Manchester United ended in January after 14 months marked by instability and underperformance. His arrival was met with high expectations, but inconsistent results plagued his time in charge.
During his first season, United finished 15th in the Premier League, a record low for the club, and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur. Despite this, the club’s leadership, headed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, invested heavily in the summer transfer window to support Amorim.
The 2025/26 season began with promise, but setbacks such as a 3-1 defeat to Brentford highlighted ongoing challenges. Disagreements between Amorim and director of football Jason Wilcox over tactics and transfer targets contributed to his departure.
Following his exit, Michael Carrick replaced Amorim and led United to a third-place Premier League finish, securing Champions League qualification. Carrick was appointed permanently in May.
Last month, Amorim was appointed head coach of AC Milan, succeeding Massimiliano Allegri. Speaking to the media, the Portuguese coach expressed his happiness and honor at joining the club.
He stated in Italian, “I am really very happy to be here. It is an honour to be the coach of Milan.” When asked about his decision to join Milan, he responded in English, “It is a club that is really special for me. It’s a big challenge. I promised myself, after the last one, that I’d choose a smaller challenge.”
He acknowledged that Milan represents an even greater challenge than he initially intended but expressed pride and enthusiasm to work with his players and staff.
Amorim emphasized his ambition to win at Milan, saying, “Yes, of course. You cannot come to Milan without that mentality. I’m not naive; I know that we have a lot to do. If you are a Milan coach, you have to play to win.”
Statistically, Amorim holds the lowest win rate of any Manchester United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson.
