Beirut Café Faces Legal Action for Overpricing by Ministry of Economy
Ministry of Economy and Trade takes legal steps against a Beirut café for excessive pricing following consumer complaints.

Following complaints received by the Ministry of Economy and Trade about a café in Beirut charging inflated prices, inspectors from the Consumer Protection Department promptly visited the establishment. After conducting the necessary inspection, a violation report was filed against the café for serious pricing infractions.
The ministry, under its motto “Every Citizen Is Monitored,” expressed appreciation for citizens committed to protecting consumer rights and preserving Lebanon’s image and tourism season. It emphasized its commitment to intensifying monitoring measures to safeguard consumers and regulate the market.
Accordingly, the case file will be referred on the upcoming Monday during official working hours to the Public Financial Prosecution to take the appropriate legal actions and request the application of the maximum penalties allowed by law against the violators.
The ministry also noted that following the Parliament’s approval of the new Consumer Protection Law, it awaits its publication in the official gazette and entry into force. This law will grant its inspectors the status of judicial police officers and enable the publication of names of repeat offenders in accordance with legal procedures.
