Economy Minister Basat Thanks Internal Security Forces for Fraud Arrest

Economy and Trade Minister Amer Basat expressed gratitude to the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces for its efforts in identifying and apprehending a suspect accused of impersonating an “inspector at the Ministry of Economy and Trade” and exploiting the ministry’s name to carry out fraudulent acts against owners of institutions and companies.

According to a statement issued by the minister’s media office, Basat affirmed that “the Ministry of Economy and Trade condemns in the strongest terms these practices, which target citizens and the private sector, tarnish the image of the public administration, and harm civil servants who perform their duties strictly in accordance with legal procedures.”

He clarified that “all inspection actions or visits conducted by the ministry are carried out exclusively by officially authorized inspectors and strictly in compliance with established legal procedures; no individual is permitted to request any financial sum or cash fee under any pretext or designation.”

Ministry’s Legal Stance on Impersonation

Basat emphasized that “the ministry will pursue this case to its conclusion and place itself fully at the disposal of the competent security and judicial authorities to investigate and prosecute anyone proven to have impersonated ministry staff or misused the ministry’s name to commit fraud—ensuring accountability for all involved and safeguarding citizens and institutions.”

Public Advisory Against Fraudulent Approaches

The minister urged “citizens and institutional owners not to engage with any person claiming to represent the Ministry of Economy and Trade outside official channels, and to immediately report any such incident to the competent security authorities or directly to the ministry, in order to protect their rights and prevent recurrence of these crimes.”
