Energy Minister Al-Saddi Clarifies No State Funds Were Borrowed for Electricity Sector

Jo Al-Saddi, the Minister of Energy and Water, published a schedule detailing the amounts owed by public administrations and institutions to the Lebanese Electricity Authority. On the platform "X," he stated: "No clever tricks allowed, and it is forbidden to claim that we requested an advance or borrowed funds. Since assuming the energy portfolio, we have not charged the state a single lira."

He urged some to stop misleading the public and shifting responsibility for the destruction of the electricity sector onto others. Al-Saddi emphasized that the funds requested from the state during cabinet sessions over more than a month are obligations owed to the Lebanese Electricity Authority by state institutions, not debts or advances.

He also noted that the state has not compensated for exemptions from electricity and water fees granted to southern regions due to the war. These obligations are due from the state and its institutions through 2025. Al-Saddi called for payments to begin next week to address the impact of rising global oil prices and to ensure the electricity sector's continuity.
