Lebanese Defense Minister Discusses Military Cooperation and Army Support in Paris
Lebanese Defense Minister Michel Mounsi met with French Minister Catherine Vautrin in Paris to discuss enhancing military cooperation and ongoing support for Lebanon's army.

During his official visit to France, Lebanese Defense Minister Brigadier General Michel Mounsi held talks in Paris with French Minister of the Armies and Veterans, Catherine Vautrin. The discussions focused on ways to strengthen military cooperation between Lebanon and France and on the continuation of French support for the Lebanese army amid current challenges.
At the start of the meeting, Brigadier General Mounsi expressed gratitude to his French counterpart for the kind invitation. He emphasized Lebanon’s deep appreciation for the consistent support of French President Emmanuel Macron and the French government towards the Lebanese state and people. He also acknowledged their ongoing efforts to reach a political solution to the conflict in Lebanon. Furthermore, he thanked France for its continuous assistance to the Lebanese state and its military institution across various levels, including military and logistical aid as well as humanitarian and diplomatic initiatives aimed at supporting Lebanon during its crises. This support contributes to strengthening Lebanon's capabilities, enabling it to carry out its national duties, extend state authority throughout Lebanese territory, and assist in implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
The two officials also addressed the security situation in Lebanon and the repercussions of ongoing Israeli military operations, which have resulted in human casualties and damage to infrastructure. Brigadier General Mounsi underscored the urgent need to intensify international efforts to achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces, thereby facilitating the return of displaced persons and reconstruction efforts.
The future of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was another topic of discussion, given the ongoing debates about the period following the end of its current mandate. The minister highlighted France’s pivotal role and expressed hope for the continuation of its active contribution.
The conversation also touched on the regional impact of the conflict that took place in Iran, with hopes that the agreement signed between the United States and Iran would take into account the interests of all involved parties, including those of the Lebanese state and its people.
In conclusion, the Lebanese Defense Minister invited his French counterpart to visit Lebanon, expressing eagerness to continue bilateral cooperation to support stability in Lebanon and the wider region.
