Lebanon's Electricity Authority Clarifies Fuel Stock Levels Amid Shortage Reports

Contrary to reports circulating in some media outlets and social networks claiming that Lebanon's fuel reserves are sufficient for only four days, the Electricity Authority of Lebanon reassures the public that its current stock of gas oil can last about nine days. This estimate is based on the established production and operational policy, which involves generating approximately 450 megawatts, providing around three to four hours of daily electricity supply across Lebanon. Priority is maintained for essential and vital facilities such as airports, ports, sewage systems, water pumps, courthouses, prisons, and key government offices.

The authority stated in a press release that a shipment of gas oil weighing about 33,000 metric tons is expected to be delivered to the Electricity Authority through the Ministry of Energy and Water – General Directorate of Oil within the coming days. The loading of this shipment at the loading port is currently nearing completion. The Electricity Authority emphasized that, following the recent regional crisis, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, and the consequent rise in oil derivative prices, it has taken all necessary precautionary measures over the past two weeks to navigate this crisis and ensure the continuity of electricity supply and the operation of state facilities.

Furthermore, the authority is consulting with all relevant parties, especially the Ministry of Energy and Water, to explore alternative options should the current crisis persist and fuel prices continue to rise. It reassures the public regarding the status of fuel reserves and electricity production and commits to providing updates on any new developments through additional statements.
