The administrative body of the Retired Teachers Association in Private Schools held its first meeting chaired by the oldest member, Youssef Saifan, with the presence of the Teachers Syndicate head, Ni'mah Mahfoud, at its headquarters in the Teachers Syndicate building in Tripoli. The administrative body was elected as follows: Mohamed Ali Al-Milhem as president, Joseph Kallas as vice president and accountant, Jean Touma as secretary, Matanious Mahfoud as treasurer and the association's representative to the government, Abdel Latif Al-Darzi as public relations officer, Sidi Al-Hadathi as assistant public relations officer, Kamal Al-Sharif as retirement work coordinator in the south, and Youssef Saifan as retirement work coordinator in the Bekaa.
The new body affirmed its commitment to following up on retirees' issues, hoping that school administrations would proceed to pay the dues owed to the compensation fund, warning against the pressures exerted by some administrations on working colleagues to resign without considering dignified retirement conditions.
It praised the efforts of retirees "who bear the living pressures," hoping that "the Parliament would release in its first session the expected financial grant to support the compensation fund, and calling on the Ministry of Finance to secure successive payments to lift the injustice inflicted on retired teachers in private schools."
It kept its meetings open to follow up on the demand movement in coordination with the Teachers Syndicate.
