UN Expresses Grave Concern Over Israeli Demolitions Near UNESCO-Listed Shqif Castle

The United Nations has voiced grave concern regarding demolition and explosive operations carried out by Israel in southern Lebanon, even as a ceasefire between the two sides remains in effect.

In an official statement, the UN described the scale of ongoing explosions and demolitions in southern Lebanon as deeply alarming, citing their devastating impact on civilian infrastructure, cultural heritage, and the collective memory of local communities.

UN Calls for Immediate Halt to Escalating Destruction

The organization emphasized the urgent need to end this intensifying pattern of destruction, noting that diplomatic channels remain open to resolve any outstanding issues.

The statement followed large-scale Israeli military explosions carried out near the historic Shqif Castle area in southern Lebanon — a site recently placed on UNESCO’s List of World Heritage in Danger on an emergency basis.
