Moscow initiates restoration of the 19th-century home and studio of artist Valentin Serov in the Arbat district, preserving its historical architecture.

Moscow has commenced restoration work on the former residence and studio of artist Valentin Serov, located in the Arbat district. The building dates back to the mid-19th century.
The restoration involves the facades and roof of the structure on Starovagankovsky Street, which is classified as a heritage site of regional significance, according to Deputy Mayor of Moscow Natalia Sergunina, as reported by the newspaper Vechernyaya Moskva.
In the later years of his life, Valentin Serov used this house as both his home and creative studio, where he completed several of his most renowned works, including portraits of his contemporaries and preliminary sketches for theatrical productions.
This initiative is part of Moscow’s program for preserving historic buildings. Authorities have approved a comprehensive restoration plan for the property, which includes maintenance and rehabilitation of its original architectural elements.
Valentin Serov (1865–1911) is recognized as one of the leading Russian painters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly noted for his portrait art. Among his most famous pieces is the painting "The Girl with Peaches," which has become an iconic work in Russian art.
Additionally, Moscow authorities have previously approved the restoration of another historic building connected to the Serov family: the apartment building on Bolshoy Kozikhinsky Lane, designed by architect G.N. Ivanov in 1902.
