Instagram introduces dual-language comment translation and new video editing features in its Edits app to enhance creator experience and reduce language barriers.

Instagram has announced a new update for its video editing application, Edits, which includes several new features aimed at content creators. The update notably introduces dual-language comment support, alongside creative tools designed to improve the editing experience for short videos.
The platform aims to reduce language barriers among users by integrating a "dual-language comments" feature within the Edits app. This functionality automatically translates caption comments into a second language without requiring external applications.
Currently, this feature supports 15 languages, including English, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Indonesian, Russian, Bengali, Gujarati, and Kannada. This move aligns with Meta's strategy to consolidate more tools and services within its own applications rather than relying on third-party apps.
Alongside the translation feature, Instagram has added various new tools to provide creators with greater flexibility during video editing. The update introduces the ability to add layers or elements over videos through an Overlays feature. It also includes an option to lock specific clips within a project to prevent accidental edits or movements during the editing process.
Additionally, the company launched a new collection of summer-themed sound effects under the "Seasonal Sound Effects" feature, aiming to offer users more creative options.
Meta entered the video editing app market last year with the launch of Edits, positioning it against specialized apps such as CapCut. Edits allows users to record and edit videos with frame-level precision and supports exporting videos in 4K resolution without watermarks for durations up to 10 minutes free of charge.
At a recent event in Los Angeles, Meta revealed upcoming features for the app, including an AI-powered assistant designed to analyze the performance of content posted on Instagram. This assistant will examine metrics such as viewer retention rates and the factors behind the success or decline of specific videos. It will also suggest new content ideas and recommend trending audio clips based on the user's posting history.
Instagram confirmed it is developing a desktop version of the Edits app, a feature long requested by content creators since the app's launch. The desktop version will enable video editing on larger screens with more precise controls and will offer automatic project synchronization between mobile devices and computers, allowing users to continue editing seamlessly across devices.
This development is expected to strengthen Edits' position in competing with leading video editing applications, particularly CapCut, which has offered a desktop version for an extended period.
