Meta Expands Plus Subscriptions on Instagram and WhatsApp with Added Features
Meta has introduced new Plus subscription plans for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, offering enhanced features for a monthly fee while keeping basic services free.

Meta, the owner of major social media platforms, has begun broadening its paid subscription model by launching new "Plus" packages for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. These subscriptions require a monthly payment and provide users with additional features beyond the standard free services.
This initiative follows earlier limited trials, during which the company tested the concept with select users before deciding to roll it out globally. Despite the introduction of paid tiers, Meta confirms that the core functions of the apps—including messaging, calls, posting, and browsing—will remain free of charge.
The Instagram Plus subscription primarily targets content creators by offering them enhanced tools for managing Stories. These include the ability to track the number of views, expand audience reach, and extend the lifespan of Stories beyond the usual 24 hours. Subscribers also gain improved visibility and greater options to customize their profiles, such as personalized icons, fonts, and interaction features.
Conversely, the WhatsApp Plus subscription provides fewer productivity-related enhancements and focuses more on personalization. Features include different chat tones, the ability to pin a larger number of chats, and organizing contacts into separate lists for work, family, and friends. While these additions may benefit some users, many might not consider them valuable enough to justify a monthly subscription.
Meta’s approach appears to be an experiment to gauge users’ willingness to pay for increased control and customization within their daily apps. Content creators on Instagram may find tangible advantages in subscribing, whereas WhatsApp remains closer to being viewed as a service whose paid upgrade can be easily bypassed.
