Ines Garcia Supports Lamine Yamal at World Cup Despite Spain's Draw

Spanish football talent Lamine Yamal was notably supported by his girlfriend, Ines Garcia, as Spain faced a frustrating goalless draw against Cape Verde in their opening match of the World Cup.

The 18-year-old Barcelona player entered as a substitute in the second half in an effort by the coaching staff to break down Cape Verde's solid defense, but his appearance did not alter the course of the game, which ended in a disappointing stalemate for Spain.

After the final whistle, Yamal was seen in the stands alongside friends and family, attempting to move past the match and focus on upcoming challenges. Among those offering comfort was his girlfriend, Spanish model and influencer Ines Garcia, who was at the forefront of those providing support.

Ines, aged 21, officially confirmed her relationship with Yamal last month and has since traveled to the United States to follow and support him during his first World Cup appearance.

Garcia shared several photos with her followers showing her among the crowd at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. She wore the Spanish national team jersey bearing Yamal’s name, matching the attire of the entire delegation accompanying the young star in the stands as a sign of solidarity.

Although Yamal only played the final twenty minutes of the Group H match, the draw's impact on the team was significant. Match statistics showed Spain dominated possession with 62% control and fired 23 shots, all of which were thwarted by Cape Verde’s resilient defense.

Yamal has faced a challenging period recently after sustaining a hamstring injury while playing for Barcelona. Initial fears suggested a severe muscle tear, but subsequent examinations revealed the injury was less serious than initially thought.

Nonetheless, the injury was sufficient to end Yamal’s season prematurely, causing him to miss the remaining La Liga matches following the injury on April 22.

Due to his incomplete physical readiness, Spain’s coaching staff has been cautious with the young talent during the 2026 World Cup. Consequently, Yamal’s role at the start of the tournament has been limited to substitute appearances, including his brief playtime against Cape Verde, as he continues working to regain full fitness.

With a carefully managed physical program to control his playing minutes, Lamine Yamal hopes to be fit enough to play the full 90 minutes in Spain’s final group stage match against Uruguay next week.
