President Donald Trump met with Venezuela’s interim president Delcy Rodríguez on Tuesday on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly meetings, in their first direct meeting, according to the White House.
A White House official said several senior U.S. officials attended the meeting alongside Trump, including his chief adviser Stephen Miller, Chief of Staff Suzi Weiss, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Delcy Rodríguez is scheduled to deliver a speech before the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday.
Trump referenced Venezuela in his address to the General Assembly, saying: "When we combine the United States and Venezuela, we possess more than 60% of the world's oil." He added, "The spoils go to the victor," according to his words.
