American Base on the Doorstep of Russia.. Trump Confirms 'Announcement Soon'

President Donald Trump opened the door to establishing a new American military base in Poland, announcing significant progress in talks about setting up a U.S. Army base and indicating that its location might be disclosed "soon."

Trump said in a post on his platform "Truth Social" that progress had been made thanks to what he described as President Polish Karol Nawrocki's "bold leadership," calling the establishment of the base a "historic step" in the U.S.-Polish alliance.

However, Trump's announcement does not mean the base is already a reality; the U.S. president linked revealing its location to finalizing the agreement, suggesting ongoing negotiations over the site and arrangements related to the permanent U.S. military presence.

The announcement comes after accelerated moves by both Polish and American sides in this direction. Earlier in September, Warsaw announced that an American negotiating team would examine potential sites in Poland for permanent U.S. military bases.

Also, Nawrocki said yesterday, Wednesday, that his country was now "on the brink" of implementing a decision regarding a permanent U.S. military presence, noting that around 10,000 American soldiers are currently stationed in Poland.

The move carries military and geopolitical significance due to Poland’s position on the eastern flank of NATO, facing Russia and Belarus.

Warsaw has worked since the outbreak of the Russian war in Ukraine to strengthen the presence of allied forces on its territory, viewing itself as one of the key nations on NATO’s eastern front.

Trump’s announcement also comes at a time when the White House is redefining the shape of the U.S. military presence in Europe. A recent Reuters investigation concluded that the Trump administration is pressuring European allies to increase defense burdens, while simultaneously investing in major military installations on NATO’s eastern flank, raising European questions about the future of U.S. commitment to the continent.
