Bloody Night in Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv: Details of the Russian Attack
A Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia injured four people overnight, while Moscow targeted energy infrastructure in Kharkiv and Khmelnytskyi. President Zelenskyy calls for a halt to strikes on power grids.
Mikhailo Simikin, governor of the Zaporizhzhia region in southeastern Ukraine, said via the Telegram app on Monday that a Russian attack on the city of Zaporizhzhia resulted in four injuries overnight.
The Ukrainian emergency service stated on Telegram that two people were injured in Russian airstrikes on the area
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Telegram that its forces targeted a power station in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, and a warehouse in the surrounding area, as well as another power station in the Khmelnytskyi region.
The ministry noted that it also targeted port infrastructure in Chornomorsk and a cargo ship heading to Odesa being used for military purposes.
The United States is pressuring Ukraine to stop attacks on oil refineries in Russia, which Washington says are driving up energy prices. This is a sensitive issue for US President Donald Trump's administration amid its conflict with Iran and approaching congressional midterm elections next month.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview broadcast yesterday, Sunday, that Moscow must stop targeting energy infrastructure for Kyiv to cease its attacks.
He added that the United States should instead allow the use of Starshield, the military version of the Starlink satellite system, over Russian territory to detect missile launch sites or provide Ukraine with Patriot missiles.
