Erdogan Announces Legal Framework to Expedite PKK Disbandment
Turkish President Erdogan reveals plans for a legal framework to accelerate the disbandment of the PKK, with swift parliamentary consideration expected.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated on Wednesday that efforts are underway to establish a legal framework aimed at accelerating the disbandment of the armed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). He added that this framework will be promptly placed on the parliament's agenda, according to Reuters.
Speaking before members of the ruling Justice and Development Party in parliament, Erdogan did not disclose specific details regarding the upcoming legal measures. However, he emphasized Ankara's commitment to advancing the peace process with the PKK and ending the armed insurgency that has persisted for over four decades against the Turkish state.
This announcement comes as the peace process between Ankara and the PKK enters a critical and sensitive phase following a period of stagnation and concerns over the potential collapse of the peace efforts, similar to previous failed attempts.
The peace negotiations have been stalled since February due to obstacles in the Turkish parliament related to legislation that would define PKK members and determine which individuals may return to Turkey and participate in political life. Turkey has stipulated that these steps must be preceded by the PKK's complete disarmament.
