Latvian Prime Minister discloses confidential measures related to Ukrainian drone flights near Latvia's airspace and a recent agreement with Kyiv.

In an interview with Delfi TV, the Prime Minister of Latvia addressed questions regarding countermeasures against drones, describing the related information as classified. He stated that the details are connected to the main issue of drones operating near the border area and to a technical decision communicated to him by Ukrainian officials.
The Prime Minister explained that if this decision were implemented on the ground, it would provide enhanced capabilities to prevent drones from breaching Latvian airspace. He emphasized that this was the reason behind the rapid signing of an agreement with Kyiv and confirmed that practical work on this matter is already underway.
He further noted that fully accomplishing the intended objectives would require relying on either the production cycle of equipment or the procurement process. This statement followed his announcement last Wednesday, after discussions with Volodymyr Zelensky, that Latvia would summon a group of Ukrainian experts to address the issue of drones violating Latvian airspace.
Recent weeks have seen an increase in incidents where Ukrainian drones have deviated from their paths and landed in Baltic countries. There have also been multiple observations of Ukrainian drones flying within European airspace. On Monday, the Latvian Armed Forces reported that NATO fighter jets intercepted and shot down a drone within Latvia's airspace.
