Sources confirmed to "NewsNation" that US forces targeted radar devices and missile launch platforms on Iran's Qeshm Island as a defensive measure to counter surface-to-air missile threats.

Sources told Kelly Meyer, a correspondent for "NewsNation," that US forces launched strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island on Monday.

A US official clarified that these strikes were a "defensive action" in response to the Iranian use of surface-to-air missiles against US assets.

A report by "Reuters" stated that the strikes were limited in scope and conducted in strict secrecy to avoid giving the impression of resuming military operations against Iran.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials reported that communications between Iran and the United States - aimed at ending the eight-month-long war - remain ongoing, days after the Iranian side held talks with Qatari mediators without achieving any breakthrough.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in statements carried by the official news agency "IRNA" that "consultations through mediators are very intensive. We have presented our conditions and proposals, and the entire matter depends on the level of political rationality in Washington."

These moves come at a time when President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to execute strikes against Iran, which could occur as early as Wednesday, the day after the US midterm elections.

Reports indicate that Trump is under pressure from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to act quickly; the two parties held a phone call over the weekend, although the content of their discussion remains unclear.

"NewsNation" previously reported that the President received a briefing on military options on Friday from Admiral Brad Cooper, the Commander of US Forces in the Middle East.

Trump expressed his desire to give negotiations a chance while simultaneously confirming his readiness to launch strikes to end the conflict.

For its part, Iran vowed to retaliate if it suffers any strikes.
