US President Donald Trump is scheduled to reveal a plan to reduce federal requirements aimed at lowering methane gas emissions resulting from oil and gas operations, justifying the proposal as a means to encourage increased local energy production and cut costs.

Trump is expected to announce this proposed rule during a campaign rally in Lubbock, Texas, on Tuesday, in an effort to boost the chances of Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton in next week's midterm elections; according to an administration official who requested anonymity before the official announcement.

Texas is the largest oil-producing state in the United States, and the oil industry has pressured the White House to relax some regulations aimed at limiting methane gas emissions, which are highly potent greenhouse gases.

This proposal comes as Trump seeks to ease voter concerns regarding rising prices of oil, gasoline, and diesel, which have been exacerbated by the Russian war on Ukraine and the American war on Iran.

During an intensive campaign ahead of the elections to maintain Republican control of Congress, Trump also defended initiatives specifically designed for his audience at rallies, ranging from Volkswagen's plans to build a $4.2 billion Audi plant in Georgia to an $8 billion fuel cost relief program for farmers in Kansas.
