UN Chief Warns of Dangerous Gulf Escalation, Urges US and Iran to Resume Talks
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warns of severe military escalation in the Gulf and calls for urgent diplomatic negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed deep concern over the serious military escalation occurring in the Gulf region, warning of catastrophic consequences for the local populations, international security, and the global economy.
Guterres highlighted that the resumption of confrontations—including Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. strikes against Iran, and Iranian assaults on targets in neighboring countries—constitutes a troubling development that must be halted immediately.
He called on all parties involved to cease their attacks and urged both Iran and the United States to urgently resume negotiations and address outstanding issues through diplomatic channels to prevent further escalation.
On Sunday, the Gulf region experienced a new wave of military escalation as Iran renewed its attacks against Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait. In response, these four countries activated their defense systems to counter hostile missiles and drones amid heightened security measures and warnings issued to their populations.
Iranian media reported on Sunday evening that approximately ten hostile projectiles struck military targets on Qeshm Island in southern Iran, with no casualties reported.
