US Military Launches Defensive Strikes Against Iran Following Apache Helicopter Downing
The US Central Command initiated defensive strikes against Iran after an Apache helicopter was downed near the Strait of Hormuz, under President Trump's orders.

The United States Central Command (Centcom) announced on Wednesday the commencement of what it described as "defensive" strikes targeting Iran, directed by President Donald Trump.
In a statement, Centcom indicated that these strikes were a response to the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter on Tuesday, characterizing the operation as a "proportional response" to what it deemed an unjustified Iranian act of aggression.
President Trump accused Iran of shooting down an AH-64 Apache attack helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday evening, which necessitated an unprecedented rescue operation for the crew, as he shared on the Truth Social platform.
Trump confirmed that the pilots were safe but emphasized that the United States "will have to respond to this attack."
According to Trump's account, the helicopter's downing triggered an intense search to locate the pilots, who managed to escape from the aircraft, which lacks ejection seats, before being rescued by an unmanned US boat in what was described as a first-of-its-kind maritime operation.
Conversely, the US Central Command stated that the cause of the helicopter crash remains under investigation, noting that Apache helicopters operate at low altitudes over the strait to conduct maritime patrols and precision strikes, which exposes them to Iranian drones.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump was hesitant to resume a broad bombing campaign against Iran, although he had previously informed his aides that he might reconsider launching a full-scale war if American soldiers were killed by Tehran.
