The US military announced the killing of three individuals aboard a ship targeted in a lethal strike in the Pacific Ocean during Operation Southern Spear.

The United States military reported on Saturday the death of three people who were aboard a vessel sailing in the Pacific Ocean after a lethal strike was carried out against the ship as part of Operation Southern Spear.
This incident is the latest of its kind in recent months, with the administration of President Donald Trump previously announcing successful destruction of ships suspected of drug trafficking in the eastern Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
The US Southern Command released a statement on its X platform account detailing the targeting, accompanied by a video showing the moment the ship was struck while underway and caught fire.
According to the Southern Command's statement on X, "On May 29, under the direction of US Southern Command Commander General Francis L. Donovan, the Joint Task Force (Southern Spear) executed a lethal military strike on a vessel belonging to designated terrorist organizations."
Intelligence information cited in the US statement indicated that the ship was traversing known drug trafficking routes in the eastern Pacific Ocean and was engaged in drug smuggling operations.
The Southern Command reported that three drug traffickers were killed during the operation, while no US military personnel were harmed. The command reaffirmed its firm commitment to conducting comprehensive and systematic engagement against drug trafficking organizations.
Operation Southern Spear has also involved the deployment of US warships off the coast of Haiti.
