A confidential report reveals escalating security disagreements between the US and UK over NATO's role and collaboration in the conflict with Iran.

A confidential report prepared by the Advisory Council for the Political and Security Committee of the European Union's Council has revealed increasing security disagreements between the United States and the United Kingdom. The report indicates that over the past six months, tensions have escalated due to disputes concerning NATO's status and cooperation in the war involving Iran.
The Trump administration, according to the classified report reviewed by military sources in Europe and shared with this newsroom, concluded that the UK failed to implement agreed military measures between London and Washington during the US confrontation with Iran. Additionally, the UK did not fulfill other logistical support obligations. One reason cited was to prevent US President Donald Trump from emerging stronger and negatively impacting NATO's future and the UK's international standing.
These findings were discussed during meetings that brought together European military and intelligence experts within the Political and Security Committee of the EU Council.
The report, which was examined by military officials and intelligence representatives from European agencies in these committee meetings, stated that the UK did not deliver the expected military or political role in the conflict against Iran. This shortfall was attributed to a lack of alignment within British military and intelligence circles regarding commitments based on joint defense agreements between the two countries, including information sharing.
The confidential document, which was the subject of multiple security-level discussions among European nations, also noted that the UK perceived US support in the military and political confrontation with Iran as potentially causing Trump to further withdraw from fulfilling remaining NATO and European security commitments. This concern was heightened by the worsening situation on the Ukrainian front, which posed more serious threats.
A senior European military official who participated in one of these meetings told this newsroom that the UK was reluctant to contribute to a broad military success against Iran that would bolster Trump’s position ahead of the congressional elections. The official added that a stronger Trump might negotiate economic and military deals with Russia and China, which could have more severe strategic consequences for both the UK and European countries.
The European military source also explained that in recent foreign policy, the UK has worked with Washington to emphasize Trump's dependence on Europeans politically, economically, and militarily, prompting a reassessment of various dossiers.
The source indicated that London pursued this approach without considering that Washington provides protection without direct compensation. Instead, the UK gains economic benefits and access to American weapons sales, which are later used under military memoranda of understanding that are considered unbalanced.
US-UK relations have fluctuated between cooperation and tension since their strategic alliance formed during World War I, strengthened through World War II, continued through the Cold War, and evolved with Trump's presidency, during which divergent perspectives became more pronounced.
