Arsenal's £34m Signing Overlooked as Club Prepares for Active Transfer Window
Arsenal secured their first Premier League title since 2004 following Bournemouth's draw with Manchester City. Despite last summer's record £250 million spending spree, Arsenal's co-chairman Josh Kroenke confirmed plans for another significant transfer window. Meanwhile, Hamburg declined the option to buy Arsenal's midfielder Fabio Vieira, who impressed during his loan spell.

Arsenal secured the Premier League championship for the first time since 2004 after Bournemouth drew 1-1 with Manchester City on Tuesday, a result that confirmed the Gunners' title without them playing. This achievement marks Mikel Arteta’s first league title as Arsenal manager.
Last summer, Arsenal invested over £250 million in the transfer market, acquiring eight new players, making it the club’s most active transfer window in recent history. Despite this, the club is preparing for another busy summer transfer period as they aim to maintain their position at the top of English football.
Josh Kroenke, Arsenal’s co-chairman and son of owner Stan Kroenke, addressed supporters in the match-day programme before Arsenal’s game against Burnley. He emphasized the club’s commitment to winning trophies and continuing hard work beyond the current season. Kroenke wrote: “We will give everything we've got to win major trophies,” and added, “Between us, we are building something very special and, wherever this month of May takes us, there will be no standing still when the season ends.”
Despite the optimism surrounding the squad, Arsenal’s £34 million signing Fabio Vieira has not been included in the club’s immediate plans. The Portuguese midfielder joined Arsenal in 2022 and spent the 2025-2026 season on loan at Hamburg. While Arsenal included a £19.16 million option-to-buy clause in the loan agreement, Hamburg has rejected this option.
During his loan spell, Vieira contributed seven goals and five assists, helping Hamburg secure their place in the Bundesliga. However, the German club reportedly prefers to pay less than €10 million (£8.7 million) for a permanent transfer, a figure below the agreed buy-option price.
When asked about his future, Vieira stated, “I have to be open to everything. Let's see what happens. No matter what the future brings, I was very happy here and will be forever grateful to the HSV. The club did everything for me, the support was amazing. I feel the love of the fans and the club. They all love me.”
