Liverpool is currently navigating the aftermath of Arne Slot's dismissal, a rare managerial change for the club since 2000. The Reds have parted ways with only five managers in that period, highlighting the unusual nature of Slot's exit just a year after securing the Premier League title.

Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool player, expressed his surprise at Slot's sacking and shared his perspective on the factors involved. Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher said, "I was torn on Arne Slot, I must say, I would've backed any decision and I can see both sides of the argument but an elite football manager finds a way to fix Liverpool to make it better but he wasn't helped with recruitment, have anyone of them done well?"

He continued, "You could put that on the manager, does he need to get more out of them? Should them players have done more? Yes. Should the people above him give him a better squad? Yes. There's a lot of people to point fingers at." Carragher also addressed the role of supporters and player influence, stating, "There is no doubt that he lost supporters, I think that was harsh on the back of what happened 12 months before. Supporter base has a huge influence, when you talk about player power, that can't have helped with Salah. I'm not happy with that, I don't ever want Liverpool Football Club to have player power to speak out about a manager who won the Premier League."

Regarding public criticism from players, Carragher remarked, "What manager does it help when a star player comes out publicly criticising the manager, that shouldn't happen no matter the situation. Maybe it's forced the clubs' hand. I don't know what goes on in the dressing room, I didn't like Mo Salah's post, I didn't think he should come out publicly."

He added, "Who does get on with every manager? Players have lots of different managers but you don't go out on social media and do it publicly or put clapping emojis when someone's having a go at your own manager. That probably tells you what's going on in the Liverpool dressing room right now."

In a separate development, The Athletic reports that Joe Gomez will remain at Liverpool to complete the final year of his contract, postponing any potential transfer until next summer. Gomez, who joined Liverpool in 2015, attracted interest from AC Milan last summer and Newcastle United in 2024.

The defender nearly transferred on the last day of the previous transfer window but stayed after a planned deal for Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace did not materialize. This season, Gomez made only six Premier League starts.

When asked about his future at the end of the season, Gomez said, "I don't know is the honest answer. I've only got a year left on my contract, so I don't know. Whatever's meant to be will be, but I'm so grateful to have had this time here at this club."

This news offers some reassurance to Liverpool supporters following the confirmation that Ibrahima Konate will leave the club this summer. The 27-year-old centre-back, who was key to Liverpool's 2024/2025 title win and also helped secure two League Cups and an FA Cup, will depart after failing to agree on a new contract. Alongside Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, Konate is set to exit Anfield.

However, the incoming manager can anticipate positive signs with the arrival of France Under-21 international Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, following his £60 million transfer in January. Additionally, Giovanni Leoni, whose debut season was interrupted by an ACL injury, is expected to contribute significantly once fully recovered.
