Manchester United appears to be ahead of Arsenal in securing a deal for Mateus Fernandes, the Portugal international who scored three goals and assisted four times in 36 appearances for West Ham in the Premier League. The Times reports United’s optimism in landing Fernandes, who could cost up to £80 million, a significant increase from his £38 million transfer from Southampton last year.

Arsenal’s hesitation to meet West Ham’s asking price may improve United’s chances, although Real Madrid’s incoming manager Jose Mourinho has expressed interest in pursuing Fernandes, potentially complicating the transfer.
