More than a month after his dismissal from AC Milan, Max Allegri has officially become Napoli's head coach following the termination of his previous contract by mutual agreement.

Napoli confirmed the appointment this morning, announcing that Allegri has signed a contract extending through 30 June 2029.

The club stated, “SSC Napoli would like to welcome Massimiliano Allegri as our new first team head coach. Allegri has signed a contract with the club until 30 June 2029.”

Allegri’s coaching career began after a lengthy playing career, which included a season with Napoli in 1997/98. He started coaching in 2003/04 with Aglianese, and in 2007/08, he led Sassuolo to their first promotion to Serie B and secured the Serie C1 Super Cup. Shortly after, he debuted in Serie A coaching with Cagliari, finishing ninth and earning the Panchina d’Oro award.

His tenure at Milan began in 2010, where he won the club’s 18th Scudetto and sixth Italian Super Cup. Between 2014 and 2019, Allegri managed Juventus, securing five consecutive league titles, four Coppa Italia trophies, and two Italian Super Cups, while also reaching two Champions League finals. After a two-year break, he returned to Juventus, winning his fifth Coppa Italia in 2024. Last season, he coached Milan again, finishing fifth.

The club concluded their announcement with, “A big welcome to our new head coach Max Allegri!”

Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis also extended a welcome to Allegri via the club’s official channels.

Allegri's New Role at Napoli

Allegri joined Milan last summer but was dismissed following the team’s failure to secure a Champions League qualifying spot, finishing fourth. His departure coincided with the dismissal of director of sport Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada, and CEO Giorgio Furlani during a broad management overhaul at San Siro.

Negotiations to end Allegri’s contract with Milan took several weeks due to the club’s administrative changes, but an agreement was eventually reached, allowing him to sign with Napoli.

He replaces Antonio Conte, who left after two seasons in which Napoli won the Scudetto and the Supercoppa Italiana.

Allegri’s contract with Napoli covers three years at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. The 58-year-old coach has previously managed Milan in two periods, from 2010 to 2014 and again in 2025-26, as well as Juventus from 2014 to 2019 and 2021 to 2024.
